Turner Curvilinear Range - Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9

Client: The Commissioners of Public Works

Architect: Architect's Department, OPW

The restoration of this iconic Protected Structure consisted of the complete dismantling of the building down to the foundations and the reassembly in the original materials together with a modern extension to the rear.

This landmark building with its distinctive wrought iron curved roof was first developed from 1843 to 1849 by the renowned ironmaster Richard Turner.

Due to severe dilapidation, the range was closed to the public in 1990. The restoration was achieved by the reuse of existing wrought iron combined with some of Richard Turner’s original ironwork salvaged from Kew Garden Glasshouse.

Recipient of the Europa Nostra award for excellence in conservation architecture.
